Spent an "advisory period" in a group of white kids (really, ALL whites) and forced them to watch a movie about drinking, driving and parties. It was lame. Then we had a discussion. That went fine, but I came to the realization that after 4 years of teaching ESL I can never deal with mainstream students. As I tried to explain what they had just watched, and discuss the vocabulary of the ddocumentary I realized that A)They know the vocabulary and B)They are looking at me like "Lady,Are you retarded or do you think WE are?"

We then discussed drunk driving and I let kids who had been affected by it talk to the rest of the class. I hate working with kids that can speak English ;P Not really, but I really don't understand them.

I then spent the rest of the day explaining the video to my ESL kids, who had watched it but hadn't understood it.

Cesar Chavez march for Justice is Saturday. I plan to take Fox with a wagon and join in with my Latino student group. I'm still their sponsor, which explains why we don't do much ;)
