mockingbirdqI'm playing hooky today. I spent the morning cleaning house and I'll go by work this afternoon to pick up some things I need this weekend.
Some days you just need some personal time. I'm getting a little to wrapped up in my students' lives.
I'm so proud of one of my favorite kids though. She's 18 and about to graduate. Her alcoholic uncle recently moved in with them, and apparently he's been coming into her room at night and standing by her bed, watching her. She told her parents, who promptly said she was lying (this child never lies about anything. She's the greatest girl ever). So she came to me, we called her older brother who is married and has helped at the school before when we needed a conference. She is now moved in with his family, and out of the situation. Now if I can just help her get into college!
There's been a lot of drama lately though, and it's wearing me out. It's hard to deal with emotional situations every day, but I guess it's a sign my students know I'm looking out for them if they are willing to come to me asking what to do about the abusive boyfriend or unplanned pregnancy. I feel like a counselor lately though...
