Asthma rant
May. 12th, 2008 07:01 pmI haven't posted lately because I am not feeling well. For the first time in 12 years, my asthma is not under control. I'm using a nebulizer every 4-6 hours and I'm on steroids as well, but nothing seems to be working. I had a chest X-ray today, so I'll see if I'm carrying around some walking pneumonia or something else that might be aggravating my bronchial tubes.
For the record, I didn't have asthma until I was 10 years old. At that time, my family moved across state from an urban area to a rural area full of pollen. We also lived in a house that was over a century old and had black mold growing in the walls. From then on, I was taking steroids for years, which led to mood swings and lots of weight gain (I've never recovered physically - the other women in my family weigh in at 100 lbs, while I have weighed more than that since I was 12). Finally, a combination of Advair and Singulair controlled my breathing to the point that I felt "normal". Unfortunately, Singulair is now under investigation by the FDA as triggering suicidal thoughs, and Advair is not recommended for use over 5 years. I've been on it for 8 years now.
Amazingly, the only time in my life I didn't have to worry about having a micro nebulizer or inhaler nearby was while pregnant with Fox. I went off the meds entirely for 6 months and never had any wheezing or breathing issues. It's enough to make me want to have 10 kids or so... Time to take some more steroids. Bleah!
