Can I share something I've just read? Sometimes you feel like everyone has written everything it is possible to write in a fandom, because it is just so huge, and the new Star Trek fandom has become amazingly large and full of many talented people, but the same ideas are started to get recycled a bit.

Then you stumble on a story that takes a totally new character or views a character in a different way, and it just blows your mind.  This story did just that. Why hadn't it occurred to any of the fandom's writers to explore the grandfather Jim T. Kirk was named after before? It's so obvious now!
