In other news....
Feb. 23rd, 2005 06:19 amThe case of the missing pregnant woman and her son? Her bagel shop is literally 10 yards from my apartment although I never met her.
After word last night I passed the shop driving home, saw the newscrews everywhere and balloons and flowers at the front of her store, and I knew the news wasn't good. It's somehow worse that they were killed by the father of her unborn daughter than a stranger... For those unaware, the leading cause of death among pregnant women is murder by her husband or boyfriend...
Yesterday was a bad day anyway. We had state testing yesterday and it was awful. Kids are NOT meant to sit still and quiet for 4 hours straight!!!!
By the end of the day there had been 8 fistfights, a HUGE foodfight that ended with chocolate pudding on the ceiling, and one of my kids was suspended for threatening another student with a pair of scissors *sigh*
I made my class stay and help clean up the food fight mess, even if none of the other teachers did....
I came home, put Fox to bed and proceeded to get sloshed. I'm now soo hungover (bleeah!)

Feb. 23rd, 2005 11:27 pmOne of my girls was absent yesterday, but I didn't think much of it. We found out today that her mother and 1 year old brother are in the hospital. They live in a 3rd floor apartment and somehow her mom fell down the stairs while carrying the baby. She'll be fine, but the baby is in a coma and they don't expect him to live. (send positive thoughts or prayers their way please!)
Needless to say, my student is not okay right now and I just feel so bad for her. There's no father or other family so she's taking the brunt of this trying to give her mom support.
I walked very slowly and carefully up to our 3rd floor apartment tonight, and I think I will be investing in a hip sling to carry Fox up and down the stairs in from now on. I can't wait to move this summer now....
