BTW, anyone on my friend's list who doesn't want to view my intactivist posts - let me know and I'll set up a friends list so you won't have to. I do think it's important for people to be informed on this issue since RIC has become part of American culture, BIYC...

Had to share these:

First, this is just wrong - Did this woman have NO parenting instincts whatsoever?!!The doctor gave her what she requested - if she had signed a consent form it wouldn't even be an issue...

Second, I agree with the columnist: I'd trust a drunk mohel over this device: It's the equivilent to putting a rubber band around a dog's leg to cut it off as well! http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/smartklamp-singleuse-automatic-circumcisions-017347.php

Follow the link to the company's website
Quote from the instructions: "Sometimes the skin sticks to the penis, and needs to be loosened."
Yes. Sometimes the attached foreskin "sticks" to the penis and needs to be "loosened" before crushing it off. This is the part of a circumcision that leads to many problems when these babies grow up to be men - the foreskin is meant to be attached for a least a few years!

"A small brown ring of skin will remain for a few days on the penis, after which it will disappear by itself. "
Every circ'ed penis I've ever seen has that brown ring around it. It's called a SCAR and it never disappears!

What idiot came up with this? And how many parents will cause harm attempting to save money and use this device themselves? To those that don't know it, many states and insurance companies will not cover routine circumcisions anymore since it's considered cosmetic.
