Good News! My student's baby brother came out of his coma and it doesn't even look like there is much brain damage, if any! We're all very happy for her...

Fox and I both got sick again Friday, so today dh is taking his mom's exchange student to Half Price books and the art museum without us *sniff**sob* - but he just called to tell me they had a Fruits Basket manga, the 1st 3 Eerie Queerie, and Gravitation half off!!! Yah!

I started reading manga mainly because they were so superior to most American comics in the late 1990's, when every company but DC Vertigo began to emphasize flashy coloring and dramatic art where you couldn't even decipher character's faces, and fighting scenes replaced emotions. The comics at the time were so obviously aimed only at the male readers, which wasn't true when I grew up in the '80s. But I've discovered that's begining to change.

I'm suddenly into comics and manga again. I picked up Whedon's Astonishing X-Men and I feel like I am once again a 13 year old digging through back issues of Uncanny X-men at the local comic book shop! Kitty Pryde is back! Lots of hints of Kitty/Piotr for the first time in decades as well - They were always my favorite characters. I think Whedon is the first X-Men writer since Claremont who doesn't suck!!!

Now if they would just bring back Magick as well....

I've heard the new Books of Magic series isn't bad either, and I recently picked up some Green Lanterns. I'm also wondering what gone on with Elfquest in the last decade or so, and discovered it's been picked up by DC. I may become addicted all over again ;)
