mockingbirdqWe went and saw Watchmen at an Imax theater today, which was a bust since it contained NO Imax scenes. Bah!
Also, the movie is very clearly violent and not suitable for small children. Even if you can't find a babysitter, you should NOT bring small children into this movie, and yet many people did. Poor crying kiddos.
Overall, I was content with it. It stayed very true to the "feel" of the comic, even if some parts were changed or omitted. I first read the Watchmen comics at age 14, so it was interesting to see them again as an adult. I may need to reread the series again.
That said, I noticed the "Black Ship" comics weren't mentioned anywhere, and I guess they wouldn't have translated well in film. I thought the scenes with John on Mars were much better in 3D, and I think they did a fairly good job depicting a nude blue man walking around ;) I do wish he had been uncut so it would have seemed more classical and less pornographic though ;)
BTW, this led to an interesting discussion with Tomu and BIL about the fact that any man who reconstructed their own body would definitely give themselves a larger dick ;)
Fox stayed with my mother while we went, and apparently sat for hours planning a remodel of her home, complete with a pink couch because "pink is pretty" in his words. Just when he seems all boy, we see some signs of the androgeny we have tried to raise him with.
One more week until Spring break. Thank God!

Date: 2009-03-09 04:10 am (UTC)"Tales of the Black Freighter" is being released as a DVD on March 24th, I believe. I think it'll be worth checking out for sure.
