Okay, I have a young adult novel that I have just finished reading and I have to rec! Buy this book!!
Hero by Perry Moore is an excellent read, especially if you grew up a comic book geek, like I did. It tells the story of a teenager with superpowers and lots of secrets, one of which is that he is gay. It's a great adventure and coming of age story.

I think his motivation for writing the novel is especially interesting. I still have the first printing of the comic where Northstar came out of the closet following the death of his adopted daughter (Marvel in the early '90s sometime). I managed to pick up some of the later issues where he joined the X-men as a teacher, had a crush on Iceman, and then was quickly killed off (only to be brought back later, of course. It IS Marvel Comics after all).
Disney owns rights to the novel, and although initially it was going to made into a movie, it now looks like it will be a TV series. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is actually released that way...
