Jul. 30th, 2008 01:24 pmSo yesterday, you may have heard about a puppy killing a 2 month old infant in OK. What I have found interesting is that the story on CNN yesterday said that the mother had placed the baby in the swing and that she and the grandmother were in the next room and heard nothing - which to me has the obvious implication of "Oh that horrible mother, leaving her child in danger while she watched TV or some such".
Here is a current news story. http://newsok.com/despite-id-little-is-clear-in-mauling/article/3276690 Note that the grandfather apparently put the baby in the swing and left the house while the mother and grandmother were still sleeping at 8:30. The father had left the house too. Interesting that all the news stories yesterday seemed to be blaming the teenage mom for something she didn't even do. Way to go media.
That said, the adults weren't blameless. The baby wasn't discovered until 10 or so... Is it supposed to be normal to leave a baby in a swing for HOURS so his mom can sleep? Once my baby was up, I was up. And although we have some cute photographs of cats sleeping against Fox's backside, I had a tent on his crib so I had a safe place to put him without worrying about my cats sitting on his face.
I don't know. I feel sad for this whole family for their tragedy being in the spotlight, and sad for the puppy that was put to sleep who was just obeying some sort of instinct. And I hate how the media reports heresay before they get real facts....
