I've received some private e-mails asking about my most recent post (it's okay to post comments publicly - I'd rather let anyone read it!)

For those who don't already know, I'm against RIC and it was not done to my son. Maybe it's a result of being a Greek and Roman art history scholar but I share their view on the circumsized penis (read the historical article my ljcut links to if you need clarification) Here's a short quote from the Mothers Against Circumcision website: "Routine Infant Circumcision [RIC] is not practiced in most medically advanced nations. Unlike American parents, few parents worldwide are actually faced with this choice. Their babies are automatically brought home intact. 82% of the world’s living men are intact. Few people are aware of the fact that circumcision was introduced to our culture in an attempt to eliminate masturbation." See link for an interesting historical overview:

And in response to one email I received - circumcision is NOT equivilent to childhood vaccinations. Penile cancer is extremely rare (and occurs less than serious complications as a result of the procedure) and occurs in circumsized men as well as those with intact foreskins. Do you advocate that ALL women routinely have mastectomies to prevent the breast cancer many more women acquire (At least that would be proven effective)? Would you circumsize your daughter just to prevent something as minor as UTI's?

IMHO one of the best articles on the subject:

I'll get off my soapbox now, but please- before allowing ANY medical procedure to be done to your child - have the sense to research it extensively beforehand. 'Nuff said.
